Friends and colleagues,

As many of you may know, I serve on the board of the Boston Preservation Alliance. It is an honor to support the work they do, and I hope you’ll join me. In celebration of National Preservation Month, I am running a mini fundraiser with the goal of raising $2,000 to support their work protecting the heritage of Boston’s built environment. I got the ball rolling with a $200 donation. Please consider donating—no matter how small, it all helps and it makes a tremendous difference for preserving the city we all love. In these current times of rapid global change, preservation has taken on an even more important role in our society. The need to preserve and repurpose our existing building stock will help to combat climate change. To quote Architect Carl Elefante “the greenest building is the one that is already built.”

“In 2007, Richard Moe, President of the National Trust for Historic Preservation at the time, gave an important speech at the National Building Museum. As part of his remarks accepting the museum’s Vincent Scully Prize, he made a strong case for preservation’s important role in advancing sustainability and combating climate change:

‘Any solution to climate change must address the need to reduce emissions by being smarter about how we use our buildings and wiser about land use. I am not so naïve as to believe that preservation represents the way out of this environmental crisis. But I do believe that historic preservation can be—and must be—a key component of any effort to promote sustainable development.’”

ABOUT Preservation Month | 2022

For over 40 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.

Without our members, donors, and community partners, our voice would fall silent–a growing membership makes our voice stronger because together we make Boston better.

Check out the projects we're currently engaged in and thank you for your continued consideration and support.

Non-members who donate $20 or greater will receive an annual membership.
