Hi friends, family, and Boston preservation enthusiasts,

You may or may not know it, but May is Preservation Month! You know me as an architectural historian, but a lot of the work I do in the field is through the Boston Preservation Alliance. I've been involved with the Alliance since 2013, so I feel confident in telling you that it's an organization worth supporting. The Alliance works to protect not only major landmarks with high visibility, but also the smaller sites that make up the more subtle, often-overlooked historic fabric that is always present in our daily lives. 

It is important to note that when you make a donation to the Alliance, you are helping to dismantle inequality in Boston. Our city has a reputation for lacking diversity, but we at the Alliance know that this isn't accurate. Rather, Bostonians need to do a better job of acknowledging, hearing, supporting, and celebrating underserved local communities. Good preservation doesn't protect history at the expense of people; rather, it advocates for culture and character over large-scale development and gentrification.

For over 40 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.
