AWA has a knack for old buildings and the stories they hold within. This is why we at AWA are helping the Boston Preservation Alliance raise funds for Preservation Month.

One lucky supporter will win a fine art print from a friend and AWA community member, Matthew Dickey. The print is of one of our favorite buildings in Boston, the People's Firehouse. Your donation is your ticket to win! Any gift of $20 or over will be eligible to win.

The People's Firehouse has twice faced the wrecking ball and has twice been saved by the local community. Neighbors know the building as a friendly spot to grab coffee and conversation on the way to work. Local dogs know it as the best spot for a limitless supply of snacks and back scratches. When the city threatened to decommission the firehouse, the neighborhood protested, saving the building and the crew.

This happened again as recently as a few years ago and again the residents of Charlestown came to the rescue, speaking in favor of keeping the fire station. Instead of facing the wrecking ball, the city invested money into the building, preserving it for generations to come and Engine 50, aka The People's Firehouse, remains as the site of Boston's oldest continuously used site as a firehouse.

ABOUT Preservation Month | 2022

For over 40 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.

Without our members, donors, and community partners, our voice would fall silent–a growing membership makes our voice stronger because together we make Boston better.

Check out the projects we're currently engaged in and thank you for your continued consideration and support.

Non-members who donate $20 or greater will receive an annual membership.
