May is Preservation Month. However, I have been devoted to Boston’s unique character for years. I have lived in Boston for decades. I grew up here and attended Boston public schools and have lived and raised my family in one of the city’s historic districts for more than 50 years. During this period, Boston has evolved from a provincial city to what our mayors claim is a World Class city. This growth has made the city more vibrant, but it has challenged us to ensure that Boston’s special character is not lost. I am proud to serve on the Boston Preservation Alliance Board because for 46 years it has served the residents of Boston as the only nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of our architectural and cultural heritage. The Alliance can only continue its work with financial support from its friends and supporters. Over the past year we have adopted a new vision for preservation that focuses on people, their stories, and how they make Boston a vibrant place to live, work, and visit. With your support, we will ensure that everyone sees themselves reflected in Boston’s built environment and feels empowered to preserve, promote, and amplify the histories held within.

I am reaching out personally to you and other friends to help the Alliance continue its activities. Recently we have had to focus also on ensuring that the Boston Landmark Commission’s role, its legal charter is not undermined. For example, because of our Call for Action, the landmarking of the Buckminster Hotel was saved from efforts to withdraw it from the required process. Similarly, we are engaged in ensuring that the Landmarked portions of the White Stadium in Franklin Park are respected and procedurally adhered to. The Alliance cannot hold its finger in the dike without support.

My goal is to raise $1,000, but any contribution amount is more than appreciated. If you have previously donated, I thank you and ask you to continue with your support. Your donation is a statement of your support for the BPA and my commitment to Boston’s unique urban character.
Thank you for your consideration.

ABOUT Preservation Month | 2024

For 45 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.

Without our members, donors, and community partners, our voice would fall silent–a growing membership makes our voice stronger because together we make Boston better.

Check out the projects we're currently engaged in and thank you for your continued consideration and support.
