Boston is the most beautiful, historic city in the country. It has its own vibe, it's own style. Every neighborhood has its own unique character and story. And it's time Boston owns its identity. We are not New York or Seattle or Phoenix, and what a loss it would be to try and become something we're not. Demolition and noncontextual design threatened to erode everything that makes Boston, Boston. My focus at the Alliance - now almost 11 years in - is about prioritizing the places that make Boston special as the city continues to grow and evolve. Show your support for this work with a Preservation Month donation- not only will you help fund the organization's work but you will show support for our mission and become part of our team.

Building reuse is climate action- reuse the energy and embodied carbon that already exists!

Building reuse preserves affordability- new construction is always more expensive that upgrading existing units, and that increases costs for tenants and buyers.

Building reuse tells the stories of Bostonians- every place holds memory and sense of belonging and when we replace them, we lose part of ourselves.

Building reuse maintains neighborhood character- new construction rarely has the same quality of design and integrity of materials as older structures.

REDUCE demolition REUSE existing buildings RECYCLE building materials

ABOUT Preservation Month | 2024

For 45 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.

Without our members, donors, and community partners, our voice would fall silent–a growing membership makes our voice stronger because together we make Boston better.

Check out the projects we're currently engaged in and thank you for your continued consideration and support.
