I think there is nothing more impactful for studying history than to walk into a historic space and feel like you are stepping back in time. I feel this when I walk into Boston City Hall or Old North Church, or when I stroll through Franklin Park. I feel so privileged to have a role in the preservation of these spaces and others throughout our city, and I cannot stress to you all how important the Boston Preservation Alliance's advocacy is in my ability to work on these projects. The Alliance ensures that Boston's architectural heritage is valued and that its preservation is approached with thoughtfulness, and they advocate strongly for the heritage and stories in all of Boston's neighborhoods, by all of Boston's voices.
This year, I'm partnering with my Peer to Peer team to make this a banner fundraising year. We've pooled our resources to offer the following prizes to those who donate:
1. All donors of $25 or more will be entered into a raffle to win a bespoke hand-embroidered art piece representing a Boston building of your choice!
2. All donors of $50 or more are invited to a rooftop pizza party at the historic South Boston Yacht Club with beautiful views of Dorchester Bay. Date TBD (Summer 2024)
3. All donors of $75 or more will be entered into a raffle to win a free ride for two on @BostonTukTuk to get ice cream or coffee in Boston, Cambridge, or Brookline!
4. All donors of $100 or more will be entered into a raffle to win two nights at a remote, rustic camp in Grafton, New Hampshire. Small kitchen, living room, and loft with a queen and two twins; no plumbing, but the outhouse is just steps away! Kayaks and fishing gear available for the nearby pond. (Conditions apply)
I hope you can join me this Preservation Month in helping to support the Alliance's mission to bring communities together and leverage their collective power to protect and celebrate Boston's historic resources. Whether its $5, $10, $50, or more, your support will ensure the Alliance can continue to have a seat at the table to guide thoughtful change that ensures the stewardship of the historic character that defines Boston. If you're a non-member and donate $20 or more, you'll get a membership to the Alliance which includes these benefits:
- Free admission to members-only events with generous opportunities to network
- Free admission to the Urban Forum, held every other year with topics that focus on neighborhoods and the economic benefits of preservation
- Priority access to public events, including walking tours, lectures, and preservation-related workshops
- Invitation and voting rights on Alliance business at our Annual Meeting
For 45 years the Boston Preservation Alliance has served the residents of Boston as a nonprofit organization that protects and improves the quality of Boston's architectural and cultural heritage. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of Boston's historic buildings, landscapes, and communities.
Without our members, donors, and community partners, our voice would fall silent–a growing membership makes our voice stronger because together we make Boston better.
Check out the projects we're currently engaged in and thank you for your continued consideration and support.
